PawsPet for rescues and shelters
PawsPet is a free app for foster care management in animal rescues: the animal's record belongs to the rescue, the foster family sees it on their own phone under «Shared with me» and logs weight, treatments and activities. When the placement ends, you remove their access from «Collaborators». Two honest limits: the foster carer needs a PawsPet account, and access never expires on its own.

The animal is registered from the rescue's own account, which remains its owner in the app. The foster family is a collaborator on that one animal only: they do not see your other animals, cannot delete the record and cannot open documents or the passport.
For each person you choose whether they can only view or also edit, area by area: general details, Health, Activities, collaborators. Logging weight and treatments needs «Edit» on Health; «Edit» on Activities to tick off doses or log walks. No preset roles.
In «Measurements» the foster family logs weight in kg, with a photo and notes, once a day, and sees the trend on a chart. In «Diet, therapies and treatments» they enter medicines and doses, recurring if needed: each dose can become a to-do to tick off.
When the animal returns to the shelter or gets adopted, open «Collaborators», tap the remove icon on the family's row and confirm: the record no longer opens on their phone. Everything they logged during the placement stays in the record, with the rescue.
Foster care
In the PawsPet app, «Pets» tab, + button at the bottom right: photo, name, species and breed, general details and location, for example the foster family's name, which the list search then finds even among dozens of animals. Each animal has its own record, with health and activities kept separate.
Open the animal, tap the ⋮ icon at the top right, then «Collaborators» » «Add collaborator». Search by name or email (the person needs a PawsPet account) and set the permissions: they start with «View» on Health only; switch on «Edit» for Health and Activities if they will log weight and treatments.
The family finds the animal in their «Pets» tab under «Shared with me» and logs from the «Measurements» and «Health» tabs; you see everything in the same record. When the placement ends, go back to «Collaborators», tap the remove icon on their row and confirm: access ends immediately.
An up-to-date profile helps you explain an animal’s character, habits and needs. Use the PawsPet adoption space to introduce them, while your organisation continues to handle conversations, assessments and adoption decisions.
Foster care
Fostering is temporary care that a family gives an animal in their own home on behalf of a rescue, until it is adopted or can go back to the shelter: care, socialisation, sometimes recovery after treatment. The animal still belongs to the rescue. In PawsPet the record follows the same pattern: the rescue is the owner, the family is a collaborator.
No. PawsPet has no subscriptions: records, collaborators, measurements and treatments cost nothing, for the rescue or for the foster family. PawsPet keeps a fee only on orders paid in the app to a business, for example a grooming session you book: a rescue that buys no services in the app never pays it.
Yes: the search in «Collaborators» only finds PawsPet accounts that already exist. They just need to download the free app and sign up with email, Google or Apple; then you search for them by name or email. The public profile link is read-only and does not let anyone log weight or treatments.
Only the animal you shared with them, under «Shared with me», with the tabs their permissions allow: always the general details; Health and Measurements or Activities if you gave them «View»; the add and edit buttons if you gave them «Edit». They do not see the rescue's other animals or the documents and passport, and they cannot delete the record.
No: a collaborator you invited by hand stays until you remove them from «Collaborators», with the remove icon on their row. From then on, if they try to open the record, they read that the owner has stopped sharing this animal. If the placement continues with another family, invite the new one and remove the previous one from the same screen.
