Where did the dog's passport go?
FreePet passport and documents always at hand
Nine document types in the pet's profile: passport, health booklet, certificates, insurance, pedigree and more, with the scans in order. The passport does not expire: expiry dates go where they really exist, with an alert if you want one. The app does not read the text of the scans.

Nine document types, one passport
Passport, health booklet, certificate, award, insurance, pedigree, adoption, microchip registration and other. The passport always comes first in the strip.
- The passport has a screen of its own: the pages full width and, below, number, issuer and dates.
- A pet has only one passport: once it is there, the option no longer appears in the menu.
- Vet reports and tests do not go here: they live under Health, with «Analyse report with AI».
Scans and PDFs, even across several pages
Attach photos or PDFs, HEIC and WEBP too, and put them in order with the arrows: the passport pages stay in the right sequence, ready to show.
- Each page is an attachment: a photo or a PDF, HEIC and WEBP too.
- The up and down arrows put the pages in order; the bin removes one.
- Tap a page and it opens full screen: swipe through the others and, from the menu, share it or open it in another app.
Expiry dates only where they exist
Insurance and certificates can have an expiry date: under 30 days the card turns yellow, then red. If you want, you also choose when to get the alert, for example 1 week or 1 month before.
Far away: no label
While more than 30 days are left, the strip shows no label; in the full list («See all») only the expiry shows, in grey: month and year.
Under 30 days: «Expires in 21 days»
The label turns yellow and counts the days. If you picked an alert, it arrives when you asked: here «1 week before».
On the expiry day: «Expires today»
You see it in the «Documents» strip and in the full list of the pet's documents.
Afterwards: «Expired», in red
When you renew, open the document, change the date and attach the new pages: the label updates.
«Expiry reminders» only appears when there is an expiry date, and it stays empty until you choose when to get the alert.
Time is sped up here: in the app the label follows the days left until the expiry. The passport has no label because it does not expire.
Vaccine remindersWho sees the documents
Normally only you. You can give a collaborator «View» or «Edit» on documents, area by area; the read-only link never shows them.
- Whoever you invite starts with «View» on «Health» only: they do not see the documents.
- If you want, tick «View» on «Documents»; with «Edit» they can also add, edit and delete them.
- The read-only link never shows the documents.
How to add a document in the app
Open your pet's «Documents» strip
«Pets» tab » open the pet » «Anagraphic» tab: under the microchip you find the «Documents» strip. Tap the dashed «Add passport» card, or «See all» and then the + «Add document» button. Alternatively, in the «Profile» tab tap the «Passport» or «Health booklet» pill in Recommended.
Fill in type, number, issuer and expiry
Pick the «Type» from the menu (Passport, Health booklet, Pedigree and more), enter the «Title» (not needed for the passport), «Number» and «Issued by». Set the «Issue date» and, only if the document expires, the «Expiry date», with an alert if you want one. Add a note if you like.
Attach the pages and save
Under «Attachments» tap «Add attachment» for each page or PDF; use the arrows to order them and the bin to remove one. Tap «Save»: the document appears in the strip and in the list with its expiry label. From the ⋮ menu on each row you can later edit or delete it, with a confirmation.
Questions about the passport and documents
- The European pet passport has no expiry date: the vaccinations and treatments written in it expire, such as the rabies shot. In PawsPet you record the vaccine with its expiry date under Health and put an expiry date on the documents that really expire.
- No: in PawsPet you keep a copy that is handy to show. For travel and checks you need the original passport.
- You and the collaborators you give «View» or «Edit» on «Documents»; by default nobody else. The read-only link never shows the documents.
- No: you type the number, issuer and dates yourself. The scans stay attached to the document, in order. Reading vet reports is a different feature, «Analyse report with AI» under Health.
